
Balta Mica a Brailei Natural Park (PN-BmB), is a wetland of international importance, declared a Ramsar site in June 2001 and a Natura 2000 site in 2007, which preserves on an area of 241 km2, respectively 24,123 ha, the last complexes of aquatic, terrestrial and ecotone ecosystems in flood-free regime, which remained after the dam of the Braila and Ialomita ponds, ie 10% of the former Inner Delta - 2,413 km2.
PN-BmB occupies a segment of 62 km from the Lower Danube, between the Giurgeni - Vadu Oii bridge, km 237 upstream and the city of Braila, km 175 downstream, at the maximum flood level, ie at the dam level from the Baragan Plain, limit west and the dam that protects the Great Island of Braila, the eastern limit. There are no human settlements on the PN-BmB territory.
